A new demographic trend shows that more than half of all babies born in the United States in the past year are minority children. The obvious follow-up question here is: how will this impact the Republican party? Well, that’s exactly what Candy Crowley asked RNC Chairman Reince Priebus on CNN’s State of the Union today. She asked how this minority shift would impact a political party that is “largely white and largely male.”
Priebus touted GOP “successes” all over the country in reaching out to Hispanic voters, including Marco Rubio and Susana Martinez. However, he did acknowledge that the party has to go beyond merely just electing Hispanic politicians. Priebus said Republicans need to go into cities with Hispanic populations, directly engage with the people, and even set up some of their operations in those places.
