From the Senate floor this morning, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid repeated his unfounded claims that Mitt Romney may actually be included in the 47% of Americans who don’t pay federal income taxes:
How many times has this claim been debunked? Let us count the ways…
PolitiFact: Harry Reid’s pants are on fire
Mitt Romney: “I have paid taxes every year. A lot of taxes.”
Romney’s tax returns: 13.9% tax rate in 2010
Mitt Romney again: I’ve never paid less than 13%
Need I go on?
Reid’s claims on the Senate floor this morning also raise another question: Why is the U.S. Senate debating Mitt Romney?
Is “Mitt Romney” the name of a bill of national importance that I haven’t heard about? Is “Mitt Romney” code language for solving the nation’s debt crisis or curing our addiction to entitlements? As one of the 300 million people who are paying Harry Reid’s salary, I’d appreciate it if he and his fellow Senators actually worked to solve the problems for which Americans sent them to Washington.
