Following his third place finish in the Michigan Primary, Rep. Ron Paul, R-TX, gave an interview to Fox News’ Megyn Kelley and Brett Baier in which he emphatically denied any connection to the Romney campaign. Following the most recent debate, some observers had questioned whether Paul was secretly in cahoots with Romney, given the Texas Congressman’s outsized focus on rival Rick Santorum, almost completely the exclusion of Romney. It was this allegation that led Fox‘s Brett Baier to ask Paul whether his son’s political future factored at all into his calculus, as though a tie with Romney might bolster the younger Paul’s chances of future success. Paul shot the idea down flat.
“We don’t talk about it, we don’t think about it, I have my job and he has his job, and that just doesn’t seem to be appropriate. I have to see how well I can do in this campaign. But the last thing I’ve done is talk to Mitt Romney. Besides, he wouldn’t talk to me about that. I mean, that’s just fiction, and has mostly been promoted by someone who I guess is super involved in conspiracy theories,” Paul said. “Santorum’s doing that, but it doesn’t make any sense at all.”
